FAQ
1. Do
you have any tips to help us in train?
The
best training for the Huntsville Hammer would be to go Huntsville state park
and ride the loop. It takes about 1.5 hours for beginners. Take breaks along
the way and enjoy the scenery, most important make it all the way around. Then
run some of the loop for hill training. Do that as much as possible between
now and the race.
2. Is
there canoe rental available for the Sprint Race
No not for this race but will have boats you can use. - might have a bit of a specail challange here. :)
3.
Is
there canoe rental for the 6 and 12 hour races?
Well no and Yes
- will have boats you can use. - might have a bit of a specail challange here. :)
4.
Do
we need to have previous map reading experience to do the sprint race?
NO
- if
you have ever used a map to drive somewhere - then you already
have what it takes. The map will contain trails and roads with in
the park that will lead you to checkpoints. This is a VERY
beginner friendly map section - anyone can do this section.
5. Will the
sprint racers have to plot points on the map?
NO all
the points will be pre-plotted for the sprint racers - Easy! .
The 12 hour racers will plot all the points.
6. What does
mostly marked course mean?
Mostly
marked course means that the run, bike, and paddle will be flagged
with pink or orange flagging. The only part of the course that is not
marked is the part you will use your pre-plotted map for - again
this is not navigation - its following a map - anybody can do this part.
7. Do you
have solo boats for rent ?
will have boats you can use. - might have a bit of a specail challange here. :)
8. Can

else at the boat drop except - pfds, paddles and 3rd seats (see below).
10. Are all
items on the Gear list required?
Yes, we must require that you have
adequate means of self support in the event you get of course and get lost. No
exceptions.
11. Any
guidance on how many times we might see TA during the 12 hour race?
You will be in and
out of TA several times during the race.
12. What
time are you aiming for the winners to finish the 12 hour race?
Between 9 and 12
hours - also depends on who shows up to race - some teams are extremely fast -
and some are just fast.
13.
How many seats
do the rental canoes have for the 6 and 12 hour?
For both races the
canoes have 2 seats. For the 6 and 12 hour 3 person teams it is recommend that a 3rd

predrop these with your boats and leave them once finished paddling.

protect our gear and boats from theft? (No boat drop for the Sprint)
